Call +1-877-717-6111 – Dell 1600n Toner Based Multifunction-Monochrome Laser 4-in-1 Printer Delivers Quality and Precision

Overview

Small office environments are always in need of a good quality multifunction printing device. Printing, copying, scanning, and faxing documents are common tasks that need to be done multiple times a day. The Dell 1600n multifunction laser device offers all of these functions at a very affordable price.

Features and Functionality

Since the Dell 1600n is a multifunction device, let’s look at each of the four main functions separately.

Printing: The 1600n is a monochrome laser printer, so all print outputs are in black and white. Dell rates this printer at 22 pages per minute, which we found to be a bit overstated. Our testing found that text based documents printed at around 15 pages per minute and graphics based documents (charts, images, etc) printed at 16 pages per minute. These speeds are decent speeds and will prove sufficient to handle large print jobs and heavy volume printing. The print quality was also very good. Outputs were sharp in color and had good representation of shadowing and use of grayscale.

Copying: The copy function of the Dell 1600n was as good as expected. This machine can act as a walk up monochrome copier. Dell rates the copy speeds equal to that of the print speeds – 22 ppm. We found the numbers to be closer to 16 ppm, similar to our findings when we performed the print speed testing. This device supports document enlargement up to 400%. The copy function overall is as to be expected and makes a nice feature of the 1600n.

Scanning: The scanning feature is essential to any all-in-one device. The feature is one of the “pros” of the 1600n device. This machine has a maximum resolution of 600 x 1200 dpi. Our testing found the scan speeds to be 7 ppm for color scanning and 4 ppm for grayscale scanning. The scan quality is very impressive and better than we have seen in competing models from other brands. The only negative to note here is the 1600n lacks the ability to scan documents over the network meaning that in can only operate as a walk up scanner.

Faxing: This device is a fully functional facsimile machine with the ability to send and receive fax transmissions. A person can use the 1600n as a walk up fax machine or fax documents from their pc over the network if the 1600n is configured to do so. This is a great feature for any workgroup and is a positive note for this machine.

The Dell 1600n comes out of the box with a 250 sheet paper tray. Owners who demand more volume can upgrade the unit by adding an additional 250 sheet tray boosting the paper capacity to 500 sheets. The built in ADF (automatic document feeder) allow for double sided printing, copying, and faxing. This is a very nice feature for offices who need it. The ADF adds another 50 sheets to the paper capacity. The Dell 1600n has a 150 sheet output paper tray. Documents of all sizes are supported by this device with a maximum paper size of 8.5 “x 14” or legal size.

The built in Ethernet adapter allows the 1600n to be connected to an office workgroup making it a network printer. This connection requires a CAT5 or CAT6 cable. This device was designed to be used on a network and owners will make the most of its feature set by installing it this way. USB 2.0 connectivity is also supported.

The Dell 1600n toner cartridge comes in a 3,000 page standard yield as well as a 5,000 page high yield variety. The high yield 310-5417 toner cartridge offers a lower cost per print. Both the standard and high yield cartridges are available in “generic” or compatible versions, which cost much less than the Dell branded toner cartridges.

The Dell 1600n all-in-one printer is not designed for placement on a desk. This model measures 17.7 “wide by 16.7” deep by 18 “high and weighs over 34 pounds. This machine has handles on the side that make it easy to pick up and move, but given it is quit bulky owners will prefer to leave the Dell 1600n in place after installation.

Conclusion

Dell delivers a great 4-in-1 multifunction device in the 1600n model. This monochrome laser printer delivers high quality prints and offers the ability to copy, scan, and fax documents. The Dell model 1600n is very affordable and will make a nice addition to any office or workgroup setting.
